Department of Philosophy

The Department of Philosophy, Lakhimpur Kendriya Mahavidyalaya, North Lakhimpur, was established in 1992 for interchange the idea, concept and assimilation of philosophical knowledge. Mrs Dipika Borgohain the retired Professor of North Lakhimpur College was the founder head  and after that succeeded by Sri Bimal Chandra Gogoi in 1996. The Department of Philosophy has introduced Major course in 1997. Successively Dr Sibaraj Chetry continued as the Head of the Department of Philosophy from 2015 to 2022.

· The Department has two nos of permanent faculty members now and they are dedicated to the course of Philosophy.

· The Department of Philosophy has a mini “Library” of its own, which provides books to the poor students.

· Philosophical Forum is the platform of the Department of Philosophy which encourages students activities by arranging seminars, sitevisit, get together etc. The Forum was established in 1997 and the first among all the forums in the college.

· ‘DARSHAN JYOTI’ is the Departmental wall magazine which encourages the creative activities of the students as well as the teachers. It was published in 1997 and it is the pioneer of the Departmental wall magazine in the college.

· Since 1997, the Department has organized twenty Department seminars, one book collection programme, five site-visit programme and fifteen get-together of new and old students. Department also arranges  educational tour in locally and nationally in every year.

· Memorandum of understanding (Mou) is made between philosophy department, Lakhimpur Kendriya Mahavidyalaya and the department of philosophy Panigaon OPD College. This understanding will create a new academic atmosphere for both colleges.
